Here is our new friend Elizabeth Angel! Our great friends the Petersons were able to adopt this beautiful 4 year old just 2 weeks ago. She is bright, loving, full of energy and such a fun new friend to have. Kristel, Dustin and Kyson are so excited to have added to their family, and we've loved being part of the experience.

Aidan's B-day/1st day of school/Mia's B-day

Aidan had a fabulous birthday. As you can see, he's loving the superhero's these days and got wolverine claws that make loud noises and emerge from his fists (scary, but the boys think it's great - Casey has also had a great time this summer making weapons with Aidan including sling shots and blow darts **Warning**these things are dangerous, and my husband should not be trusted as he is a little kid himself)..... :)

Aidan started Kindergarten at Spanish Oaks Elementary and has Miss Thacker for his teacher. She is fabulous. He loves going to school and comes home and sings song/telling stories that he learns, which I love!

My Mia turned 4 this October...I wasn't ready for that, but sadly it had to happen. We got to go to Build a Bear, which was AMAZING (basically a Disneyland experience for stuffed animals) - and if you know my Mia, you know she was in Heaven. This is her puppy "Love", and they've been in love ever since.

Denver Trip/Aidan's first tooth

Casey's sister Loralee got married to Levi in August. Our family made the trip out to Denver for the wedding and reception. We had a great time, and my sister Mary came out with us to help and to see the King Tut exhibit. The boy cousins (Jeran, Brandon, Joey, Aidan and Tyler) enjoyed each other and there were definitely lots of kids to run around and play with. We were so happy to see family, even though it was a short trip. Aidan also lost his first and second tooth this summer - and was very proud to show off his "window".

We enjoyed fun with the family, having BBQ (s), playing at the cabin and at local parks...just being outside. We found out that make-up and 4 yr olds (thanks so much mike and tammy) were not the best mix in our case. My favorite kiddos zoned out in their get-up masks in the car, and my very sad little Tessa with Mia and Aidan (who look very unsympathetic to her suffering) in our bed.

Summer Happenings - quick update

We had a great summer. Casey was off of work and was able to have a great time with the kids and help me recooperate. One of the favorite activities was "pretending" to fish out on the tramp. The kids (including neighbor Kyson) got a kick out of it. We had a fun 4th of July and spent it with our neighbors the Petersons up in Lehi/Traverse Mtn area at a neighborhood party. We went up to the reservoir and enjoyed the sun (although...waaaay to hot for me), and we also found our kids on the tramp indecently unclothed for all to see :)

Tessa had lots of excited family and friends that came and welcomed her into our family. I was out of it the first day or so (sorry for those who got to see that side of me...), but I got lucky and was treated with visits from my sister Mary and brother Royden quite a bit while I was in the hospital recovering.

Our kids had just about as much fun at the Beach as they did at the amusement parks. We had a great time watching them jump over waves, make sand castles, and just get plain dirty.

I am having a hard time believing that Kindergarten is happening in a few short months. Can this really be happening? Mia was there to cheer her brother on during his final program.

Disneyland- Spring Break 2009

Our first day at Disneyland. The whole trip was amazing, and we started it off right, by hitting Peter Pan first and riding the Carousel several times throughout the day. The kids were great and were more excited the more we did.

Aidan developed a true love for roller-coasters and couldn't get enough of Space Mountain and Splash Mountain. He was a lucky guy, and got to go on each ride 2 times each time we went (once with Dad and once with Mom). I enjoyed hearing all about what we were going to get to do during our trek to our seat! Mia was a sport and didn't complain when she wasn't able to go on a ride....I don't know how we lucked out on that one, but it sure made it more enjoyable!

Winter at the Cabin

We've had so much fun at the cabin this winter. The kids have been sledding and, attempted to make a few snowmen. We've loved the beauty of winter and all the snow. We're grateful that we get to use the cabin as frequently as we do. Aidan and Mia are also so lucky to have Grandparents who will play in the snow with them. Thanks mom and dad!

We also love having friends up at the cabin. Mike, Tammy, Victoria and Henry were able to come up for an evening, and the kids had fun going up and down the stairs.

Valentines Cookie Making

We had our cousins Miriam and Ellie over to make Valentines cookies with Grandma. Everyone got an apron, rolling pin and cookie cutters. It was a blast. They loved the eating part best I think, and for next year, I think I'll be hiding the tiny cookie cutters, as I found out that frosting them (all) is quite the messy adventure. Ballroom Reunion

Somehow I got in charge of organizing a Ballroom Reunion this year. We were excited to see those who made it. These are 3 of my favorite people. Ryan, Mia and Ali. It was great to reconnect with them, and made us all a little sad that we aren't dancing like we used to be. Ali is expecting her first and looking so darn cute. Good luck Ali!

Circus 2009

I don't know if you've been to the circus. I have vague impressions that I went once as a child, but no real memories, so this was a new experience for most of us. We were excited to go with our friends Anne and Lauren and our Grandma Shurtz, Aunt Alyson and cousins Miriam and Ellie. We got good seats, and we got to watch lucky spectators take rides on Elephants and Pony's (until we're in a different pay bracket, we will continue to be spectators!). The circus was fun, although once animals were off the floor, Mia was no longer interested. They did amazingly well and I think enjoyed the experience overall (a bit too long in my book!)- not something we'll do frequently, but a nice memory.

The Dinosaur Museam-Thanksgiving Point

We had a very fun January! We got to go to Thanksgiving Point (one of our favorite places) with Grandma Shurtz to see the Dinosaur Museam. We love to see the dinosaurs, and appreciate all the fun activities to keep us occupied. Aidan was sad that we weren't able to see a movie this time, but hopefully soon!

The Zoo in January

We were lucky enough to hit the Zoo in January....something I've never done before. It was free Zoo day, and our neighbors invited us that morning, so we packed a quick lunch and headed out the door. It was scary weather on the drive up, and we were worried it might become a wasted trip, but once we got there the snow calmed down and it was quite beautiful. The kids had a blast getting out and running, and surprisingly, I think the animals were more awake and active than they often are in the summer. We're looking forward to the next free Zoo day, anyone interested?

Snow Cave

Casey was great to help the kids dig a snow cave this year, which has been the fun new hut in the snow. We can't get Mia to quit eating the snow however. We do continue to try to encourage only the purest and "cleanest" snow...but in reality it's a loss.

Christmas Morning

Christmas Morning was a blast. The kids are at the perfect age for Santa and really getting into the whole experience....and they're still young enough to sleep in, so we've got the best of both worlds. Mia here is very excited about her new "Cheetah", and in the background you can see Aidan trying out his new scooter. Aidan got 2 guns, which is convenient so that Mia can play guns with him. Aidan was also excited about his new racetrack.

Nativity with the Shurtz's

We met with my family on Christmas Eve for the Nativity and to open presents. Miriam was Mary, Aidan-Joseph, Ellie a shepherd, Mia an Angel, and Alan and Casey were wisemen. They did very well, although I think they were each in their own little world a lot of the time.

Mary was a hit that night giving the kids "precious" hat/glove/scarf sets....AND a play phone which the kids couldn't get enough of. Thanks Mary!

Sledding in the Driveway

After one of our bigger snow storms, we attempted sledding right at home...and what a success! The kids loved it, we didn't have to climb and tow the kids up crazy huge hills...I think I like this form of sledding the best.

Richfield Light Parade

Well, it is now a tradition to have snow @ the light parade when the Johnson's are there. We have previously gone to Richfield to cut down a Christmas Tree with our friends. This year we didn't get down in time for a tree, but still enjoyed the parade although this year was much colder, and I think shorter as a result. The kids loved eating donuts and drinking hot cocoa. Mia, just tried to stay warm. :)

We were able to continue the tradition of making Gingerbread Houses with cousins Miriam and Ellie. Mia enjoyed stuffing as much candy in her mouth as physically possible and Casey did a great job of creating a beautiful House which Aidan enjoyed helping decorate.

Happy Halloween!! Hope you all had a fun holiday. This is the crew- Mia as a Princess Fairy, Casey as Lord of the Underworld or Grimm Reaper and Aidan as SpiderMan.
The kids had a very fun time this year, although they're still somewhat slow trick-or-treaters. Mia was more interested in playing with each neighbors dogs/puppies than the actual candy.
I was able to go to Aidan's pre-school to help with his Halloween party and I can vouch that he had a fun-filled Halloween week!

Gardner's Village Outing

Wow, what a fun place. This was out first visit to Gardner's Village and I think we'll make it a yearly tradition. They had beautiful displays of 8 ft witches all around, up and down which kept the kids very entertained. My mom came with us, and got to hear all the accolades of Mia's cute costume that she made for her (isn't it gorgeous!! Thanks Mom!!). Grandma treated us to a cookie, and the weather was amazing. They had many fun, cute shops that I think I'll go back and visit with some girlfriends, as they aren't too kid friendly but look very fun for me. A very fun Fall Day!

We were lucky enough to have our friends from Richfield come up and stay with us for a few days at the cabin. Cassie and her 3 kids: Kenady, Emry (cute little bum)and Treven. We got to spend some time with our cousin's Miriam and Ellie at the Cabin for FHE. Grandma provided a fun Halloween lesson with puppets. We always enjoy throwing sticks and rocks into the water, and Ellie is just always happy!

One of our favorite places is Salem pond. We go there to feed the ducks and just enjoy the beautiful scenery. They have a fun playground, and a nice walking trail around the park. We like to go here in the winter just to get out of the house!

Saturday we were lucky enough not to have plans and were able to go up the Canyon to enjoy the beautiful colors. We took some pictures of our friends, enjoyed some scenic views, and took a hike to the Grotto. A perfect hike for little kids. It contains several log bridges over the stream that they find fascinating. We had to take some pics of the kids, as they're growing up way too fast for us. They're in such a fun stage that we'd love them to stay in for awhile. But, I'm sure that more will come....right?

Cute Sayings

My kids say lots of cute things, and I need to write them down more often so that I remember them. Here are a few from today.

Aidan is asked what else he wants for breakfast "I only eat chocolate mommy," Dad had given him a granola bar earlier (with chocolate in it).

Our favorite "Aidan talk" is during the prayer when he says "Bedankdee"- We thank thee

Aidan's ALL-TIME constant, favorite thing to do is tell us what we're going to be. "Mommy, how bout you can be Nala's mommy, I can be Simba, Daddy can be Mufasa and Mia can be Nala". Within 10 minutes, our roles are changing to car colors, dinosaurs, The Incredibles etc.

Mia's favorite Movie is also Lion King, which she calls TATA for Hakunna Matata. This goes for any of the figurines, the book etc.

And after pulling up into the garage, Mia announces our arrival with "WAHOME".

Casey and I look forward to coming home, for Mia's welome. She runs to us with open arms, screaming either Yay Mommy, or Yay Daddy.

During Aidan's nap one day Ali and Randy brought by a slide/playground set from Aunt Carolyn for our backyard. When Aidan woke up and looked outside, he asked.." How did that grow there daddy? With lots of rain, sunshine, and love?"

Yellowstone Trip

Wow, I can't believe this summer's almost done. We were lucky enough to take a trip to Yellowstone before Casey started back to work. We spent 3 nights there with the kids in a tent...and we had a blast.

The kids were great, loved the outdoors, and surprisingly slept wonderfully. They were excited to see all of the animals and play in the dirt to their hearts delight. We were able to see quite a few Buffalo/Bison up close and also some elk, but no Moose or Bear (I'm okay with that). The campgrounds did a great job of posting signs in the restrooms of Buffalo and Bear attacks to keep you on your toes. We had some sporadic weather while we were there, but we survived and it kept it interesting! Our tent issues started as we arrived past midnight our first night. We then discovered that we had forgotten our rain fly, and the forecast was for rain. We placed out picnic blanket on top of us, but got lucky in that it didn't rain that night as we all cuddled up on the floor together. The next day we moved sights and placed out tarp over the top, which came into good use several times throughout our trip.

One of our favorite stops was a trip to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and it's falls. They were beautiful. We hiked down the 375 steps to reach this lookout point, which was beautiful. More amazingly to us, was that Aidan was able to walk all the way down and back up with no problem. He has sure built up a lot of strength in this last year and it doing great!
Our kids have been pretty good at posing for pictures lately. So much so that at times, they won't give you a nautral simle, but we love them!
Here are the falls from another lookout point. It was great to see it upclose, and then to see them from this distance made it's grandeur more amazing.

Old Faithful, was very true to her name. We were able to check it out twice, and we tried to see others... but just missed them. We got to snack on our favorite treat though (ice cream), as it was a very hot day, which we were a little unprepared for.

Overall, a very successful trip that was enjoyed by all. One of my favorite memories if of Mia waking up and chasing the moles/squirrels and calling them "mousey's". The only part I would change would be the drive home. I would have borrowed by neighbors DVD player, as the kids were quite ready to be home. Cabin Vacation

Justin/Cassie and family were able to come and play with us @ my parents Cabin. We were able to stay up for 4 days, and loved the relaxing, book reading, hiking and movie watching. It was a nice surprise, since we probably won't get to do much more since gas prices are so high!! Here we are roasting some marshmallows. Yum

Here we are up at the Cabin in January. We were lucky enough to stay overnight and got snowed in! It snowed 2 feet that night and was just beautiful. The kids loved it, and we're always so excited to be up at the Cabin, and Aidan gets excited for Hot Chocolate. That Saturday Casey and I got to try snow-shoeing for the first time. I loved it, and hope to go again soon!

Sad News

My friend and co-worker Jodi had a 25 week old beautiful baby girl Aimee, on December 30th. We were lucky enough to see little Aimee at work some days, and she loved being held by her mom. She was a strong and brave little angel, who sadly left us last Monday. The viewing was beautiful, and Jodi and Dan both showed such strength and love. My prayers and thoughts go out to them during this difficult time.

Chicago

Wow, told you I'd be bad at this. Well, I was able to go to Chicago this month...the one place colder than where I live for a Nutrition Conference "ASPEN". I thought I new cold, but -26, was a little more bone chilling than I had expected. Chicago was a beautiful city, and very large...but it sadly didn't end up being my dream vacation/rejuvenation session that I was hoping for. I think my expectations all around were just too high. I went with my friend Jasmine Jew from Cali, and we were able to sight-see 1 day, but sadly found out that everything opened at 10 and closed at 7, which was when the conference was in full force. We did see an amazing Aquarium that I wish I could have shown my kids, it took you around the world showing you the fish and sea/ocean/river life from each area. We also went to the Field Museum which was quite overwhelming, but very neat as well. We did manage to eat some Chicago Deep Dish pizza which was really good. We tried to find a famous hot dog stand, but sadly I think it was too cold for them as well. We enjoyed the shopping on Michigan Avenue and the yummy popcorn store, Garretts. My conference was informative, and got better as it went, so I'm excited to use some new information at work. It was hard to be away from my kids for that long, at least they were happy to see me when I got home. :)

Aidan Surgery Update

For those wanting an update on Aidan's status here we go. Aidan had surgery November 7, 2007. We were in Primary Children's for just about 2 weeks, but made it home in time for Thanksgiving. Aidan loved it at PCMC, and is always excited to go back (maybe they made it too nice?! :)) His therapists were wonderful and he's improved faster than we ever could have expected. We were lucky enough to have our fun cousins come from Colorado to visit while Aidan was in the hospital and stay for Thanksgiving. Aidan had a blast with them, and even got to go to the ZOO on his first day trip out of the hospital. He left the hospital with a walker, but was walking very soon on his own. I had a fun time having both kids learn to walk at the same time (Mia also enjoyed learning to walk with a walker). He continues to have PT once a week and we do a lot of exercises @ home. At his follow-up visit the doctors made us feel like Aidan is the poster child for this surgery. He's been so quick to gain back function.

The exciting new news, is that Aidan ran for the first time last week. It's taken awhile, but he's sure excited to be back at it, and he's no longer a toe runner. He amazes us at his always positive attitude about his whole experience. He has not questioned anything, but has just taken what he is given and made the best of it. We have learned a lot from him.

The Unlucky One- A whiny moment

This would be me. It's really quite amazing how unlucky a person can be, and how much I want to laugh because it's funny, but how I also want to cry because it's the sad truth. The latest story took place last night. I went to a Lia Sophia Jewelry party with my friend Kristel. She's nice enough to drag me out of the house and get me some social interaction every now and then. Unfortunately for her, as her neighbor I'm greatly retarded in many aspects of being crafty, girly and having taste (she is slowly learning that I wasn't lying, it is the truth). Well this party was for the Hosts, so it was a party where they love to give away merchandise, and basically it's made so that everyone will leave with something. First off, the first 20 people there get a sticker (which I learn later means..."free stuff"), but I'm confused because I don't get a sticker due to the fact that I'm person #21. A bit later I go to the bathroom, when I return every one's holding beautiful stuff, wow...what happened? Oh, 1-20 got their prizes. Next there's a raffle, where they give out many fun prizes. I'm sitting on a row where one lady (RaDawn, I love you) gets hmmm, 4-5 things from the raffle. I just hang my head, because really it's quite embarrassing. In the end, there is a little bit of pity from a girl who doesn't want her prize. I get to choose a $100 item and only pay $15. Thanks!! Needless to say, I'm over it. It was a fun night out regardless, I'm just cursed to be the unlucky one. Thanks Kristel!

All right. While starting this blog I must mention what has happened upstairs. My daughter climbed up on a table and then into her high chair....I think she was hungry (and gratefully she didn't fall and hurt herself).
On to the next subject: When do they learn to clean themselves?
I can't believe that as a parent I'm actually complaining about Aidan wanting to be clean, but at times it gets to be a little much. He can't stand to have crumbs on his hands, and hasn't quite learned that he is capable to clean them himself, so I feel like I'm constantly wiping and cleaning up all sorts of messes...which I know, is just part of the job, :)

I believe this is officially the first photo of my kids where they actually look like they like each other! It only took over a year...we're so greatful for these rare special moments, and that I actually got one recorded in history.

Can it be? Kristen actually starting a blog? I'm not really believing it myself quite yet, we'll see if I make it through the process. This is just step one, of I'm sure 50....so hold on, take a breath and maybe it will magically appear. :)
